Lumsdale and the Lumsdale Waterfalls are just a short walk out of Matlock Town Centre and have become a popular destination for families and walkers.
The site is located at the edge of Tansley Woods which can provide up to two miles of trail where you will find cascading waterfalls, an old millpond and stepping stones over the Bentley Brook, which runs down through the Lumsdale Valley. The terrain can be a bit rocky and or muddy so a stiff pair of walking boots is recommended.
Along the way you’ll find a hive of nature nestling in the ancient woodlands, alongside panoramic vistas across the valley where one can see Matlock Cliff and Riber Castle on the hillside opposite.
If after your walk you feel a bit thirsty, there’s a brand new taproom called The Bentley Brook Brewery on Lumsdale Road. On Fridays and weekend days you will find refreshments both alcoholic and non-alcoholic alongside great pies and sweet treats. You will find both local clientele and visitors mingling in this quaint but cosy venue. The taproom is situated on the banks of the Bentley Brook, and makes the ideal destination for a chilled out weekend afternoon. Check Facebook for opening times.
