Carnival Week Bakewell and International Day of Dance

Saturday 19th June to Sunday 2nd July 2024

The Bakewell Carnival Week is an eagerly awaited event that brings the community together through a blend of traditional and modern activities. This year’s lineup, enriched with pre-carnival competitions, invites everyone to indulge in the festive spirit early on. From the creative Scarecrow Competition that decorates the town with imaginative figures to the thrill of Carnival Darts, there’s something for everyone. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy soccer activities hosted by Bakewell Town FC and a competitive domino tournament. The family-centric events, like the Day of Dance (29th June) and Bakewell Pudding Fell Race, cater to all ages, fostering a sense of community and encouraging charity contributions. Culminating in the grand Carnival Day on July 1st, the week promises a vibrant showcase of local culture, community spirit, and fun-filled activities designed to delight residents and visitors alike, reinforcing Bakewell’s reputation as a focal point of communal joy and engagement.

Looking for somewhere to stay near Bakewell? Then you won’t be disappointed with one of our cottages situated in beautiful Darley Dale Valley.  Our cottages are approximately 5 miles from Bakewell and less than 3 miles from up and coming Matlock.

For the carnival itself there’s plenty of parking by the Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell.  Bakewell is just a 12 minute car drive, or if you want to leave the car, why not hop on the Transpeak bus, which will take you down the A6 into the heart of Bakewell.

Finally, if you have a large party (10+) then we have the fantastic Escape, a 5 bedroom holiday cottage in Derbyshire with hot tub and pool table. The Escape has two double rooms, and two twin rooms (one with ground floor access).  There’s also a room with a bunkbed. It also has a large living room, kitchen and dining area.  The Escape is ideal for a large group with it’s very own covered hot tub and a games room which has an additional room for sleeping.
