For two weeks in September this quirky and vibrant Derbyshire market town comes to life with the annual Wirksworth Art Festival. The festival has been running since 1994 when artists in the town decided to use their own homes to exhibit not just their own art but the art of others.
This has become known as the Art and Architecture trail and on the weekend of the 10th and 11th September visitors to the town can wander the streets of Wirksworth (and Bolehill) and enter the various houses on the route to observe and appreciate the splendid artistic treasures there within.
In addition you will be able to find bands and performers dotted around the town and if you have time you might even be able to catch a film or two in the artisan cinema known as the Northern Lights.
For only the second year the festival will be having an artist in residence. This year the artist in residence is visual artist Liane Lang who specialises in artistic photography, often useing alternative processes, to depict statues and historic monuments
The festival has had a two year break due to the pandemic, so this will be a welcome return for both visitors and locals alike.
